Dr. Ryan Sharston is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida and an accomplished architect and civil/environmental engineer. He has dedicated nearly two decades to advancing sustainable, resilient, and affordable housing solutions for communities. Drawing on both hands-on construction experience and academic expertise, he designs high-performance homes that promote community resilience, energy efficiency, and healthy living environments. At UF, Dr. Sharston leads a Habitat for Humanity Florida research partnership as Principal Investigator for the Advanced Design for Affordable Prefabricated Housing Technologies (ADAPT) project, which focuses on developing new models of affordable, resilient, and sustainable modular homes tailored to Florida’s communities. In this role, he works directly with local Habitat affiliates, modular manufacturers, homeowners, and volunteers to ensure these innovative designs can be built effectively and meet the real-world needs of families and community builders on the ground. He has also served as Co-Principal Investigator on a U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department-funded initiative called “Advanced Modular Housing Design.” This project has been pioneering rapidly deployable housing solutions for low-income and disaster-affected communities. He works hand-in-hand with community partners to transform cutting-edge research into real homes that are safe, sustainable, and affordable for families in need.
